The Cecropia moth,

Linnaeus, is among the most spectacular of the North American Lepidoptera. It is a member of the Saturnidae.

There are typically five larval instars, each lasting approximately one week. First instar larvae are black and feed gregariously, the fifth instar larvae is very attractive in appearance, they can reach up to 4.5 inches long.

Adults wingspan can reach up to 6 inches, definitely a keeper in anyone's collection.

The larvae do best on cherry leaves, but also accepts maple and most other North American deciduous trees.
The adults only produce one generation of eggs every year, so this is an opportunity one cannot miss!
